You may recall the entry of January 12th when I had attended the inaugural ecumenical service for something called ‘The Alliance’ whose mission is shaping up to be something along the lines of ‘breaking the back of homophobia by countering destructive religious doctrines that impede the common good’. The group is getting organized under the leadership of the Rev’d Dennis Meredith of Tabernacle Baptist Church and is looking towards some kind of event (possibly in conjunction with PFLAG www.pflag.org) honoring parents of GLBT people on the eve of Mother’s Day. They have a good eye for the importance of generating media interest in the service of proclaiming that truth can be liberating especially for the African American community whose young men are dying of AIDS at a disproportionate rate to other populations. I continue to believe that this is important work worth doing.
